Monrad ICT

The main aim of Monrad's ICT is to promote connectedness within the New Zealand Curriculum. The students will use ICT to become effective users of communication tools and will see the value of ICT to assist them with their lives, be it for recreation, schoolwork or their future careers.

In 2011 the ICT programme will consist of three overlapping components which aim to deliver coverage across the three areas of the New Zealand Technology curriculum.

1)      Students will use digital media to add value and interest to students learning. The students will be set tasks relating to the creation of animations, films and interactive presentations.
They will learn how to manipulate images to create eye-catching and professional looking pieces of work. Through these tasks they will expand their own Technological Knowledge in relation to ICT.

2)      Students will be given several challenges where they will be required to use ICT and teamwork to problem solve. Lego Mindstorms Robotics Kits will be used for this as well as 3 Dimensional CAD software. They will also get an introduction to Games Development. This component is closely related to the Technological Practice section of the Curriculum.

 3)      All students will explore the concept of Digital Citizenship and the use of the internet as the primary source of information in the 21st century. (Nature of Technology) They will be set a series of webquests and scavenger hunts that allow them to refine their search skills and they will explore ways to present information that they have found effectively and ethically.
